The Early Cretaceous was a time of turmoil across the American West. Titan-lizards (sauropods) and giant predators (allosaurs) thundered across the landscape as they had for millions of years, yet their reign was drawing to a close. At the same time, a wave of new dinosaur forms emigrating from Asia was about to hit North America and change the landscape forever. Join Field Museum Paleontologist Dr. Lindsay Zanno for a chat about her latest dinosaur expedition to uncover new Cretaceous dinosaurs from the American West and what these discoveries are teaching us about how the dinosaurs from these two great continents clashed here in North America and who survived the confrontation. |

ESCONI General Meeting. Speaker: Paul Mayer, Invertebrate Collections Manager at the Field Museum. His talk will be entitled "The Milwaukee Formation: Rocks, Fossils, and Storms." The lecture will focus on some deep tunnel cores drilled to a depth of over 800 feet in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In particular, he will talk about his research on the Devonian (about 380 million years old ) Milwaukee Formation. The cores are the only complete section of the Milwaukee Formation available to study. He dissolved parts of the cores in a weak acid and recovered the surviving microfossils. These fossils provide details on the age of the Milwaukee Formation, its changing depositional environments, and some new fossil discoveries from Milwaukee. He will also talk a little bit about the history and economic importance of the Milwaukee Formation: The Cement that made Milwaukee Famous.
